Enterprise Transition - FAQs
Bright Red Triangle's enterprise support service is transitioning from the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Office into Edinburgh Napier University's Employability and Careers team.
As part of this change, the revised Edinburgh Napier enterprise support service will focus on current students and graduates within two years of graduation.
The BRT facility at Bainfield will close to users after 12pm on 23 December 2026. Eligible users will continue to be able to access enterprise guidance through appointments online or at locations across the University's campuses.
The FAQs below explain what these changes mean for existing users, how to make arrangements before Bainfield closes and where to find further support.
FAQs
Who will be eligible for Edinburgh Napier's enterprise support service from 24 December 2026?
From 24 December 2026, the revised Edinburgh Napier enterprise support service will focus on current Edinburgh Napier University students and graduates within two years of graduation.
This means that Edinburgh Napier staff and graduates who completed their studies more than two years ago will no longer be eligible to access the University's enterprise support service under the revised arrangements.
I'm an existing BRT user but won't be eligible under the revised service. Can I continue accessing support until the end of 2026?
Yes. Existing users can continue to access the current BRT enterprise support service until 23 December 2026.
From 24 December 2026, the revised eligibility arrangements will apply. If you do not meet the new eligibility criteria, you will no longer be able to access enterprise support through Edinburgh Napier University's service.
We encourage anyone who may be affected by this change to make use of the remaining time to discuss their business or enterprise support needs with an adviser and explore alternative sources of support.
I'm currently working with an enterprise adviser. What happens to my existing appointments or support?
Appointments already booked will go ahead as planned, with advisers available to deliver these as usual. If any appointments have been affected by the transition, the individuals concerned have been contacted directly.
As some colleagues have moved on to pursue new opportunities as part of the transition, you may notice changes in the team members you interact with. We appreciate your understanding as the service moves into its next phase.
When will the BRT facility at Bainfield close?
The Bainfield BRT facility will remain open to existing users until 23 December 2026.
Fob access will cease after 12pm on 23 December 2026. After this time, the facility will no longer be accessible to any BRT users.
What should I do if I have belongings or items at Bainfield that I need to collect?
Bainfield operates as a co-working space rather than providing dedicated storage or individual offices. However, if you have any personal belongings, business materials or other items that you need to collect, please make arrangements to do so before 12pm on 23 December 2026.
If you have anything that requires assistance or needs to be collected by arrangement, please contact us in advance at info@brightredtriangle.co.uk.
Please note that access to the facility will not be available after 12pm on 23 December.
What happens to my Bainfield access fob and where should I return it?
Fobs can be returned to the Student Accommodation Office, located in the main student accommodation square at Bainfield. This is where you would originally have had your fob set up and where renewals of fob access have been managed.
If you are unable to return your fob before 23 December 2026, you will still be able to return it in the new year.
If you have any questions about returning your fob, please contact info@brightredtriangle.co.uk and we will be happy to help.
Can I still use Bainfield for meetings or workspace after 23 December?
No. The BRT facility at Bainfield will close to users after 12pm on 23 December 2026. This means the space will no longer be available for meetings, workspace or other BRT activities.
Eligible Edinburgh Napier students and graduates within two years of graduation will still be able to access enterprise guidance through appointments online or at alternative locations across the University's campuses.
Can I still book an appointment with an enterprise adviser before and after Bainfield closes?
Yes. You can continue to book appointments with an enterprise adviser through the usual membership platform. Appointments can be arranged online or in person at Bainfield up until 23 December 2026.
Following the closure of Bainfield, you can still access enterprise support and book appointments as normal, provided you remain eligible for the service. This includes Edinburgh Napier University students and graduates who are within two years of graduating, as well as individuals accessing the service through the Queen Margaret University (QMU) and Edinburgh College partnership.
The closure of Bainfield will therefore not affect your eligibility to access enterprise support or your ability to book appointments, provided you meet the relevant eligibility criteria.
Where will enterprise support be available from 2027?
The revised service will provide enterprise guidance through appointments online or in person at locations across Edinburgh Napier University's three campuses.
Eligible current students and graduates within two years of graduation will be able to arrange appointments through the membership platform.
Bainfield will no longer be available as an appointment location after 23 December 2026.
I'm from Queen Margaret University or Edinburgh College. Does the transition/ Bainfield closure affect my access to enterprise support?
No. The closure of the Bainfield facility does not mean that enterprise support through the existing Queen Margaret University and Edinburgh College partnership agreements is ending.
Eligible students, staff and alumni from both institutions can continue to access enterprise advice and guidance as normal beyond 23 December 2026, in line with the existing partnership agreements.
If there are any changes to these arrangements in the future, the relevant communities will be communicated with directly.
What if I am no longer eligible for Edinburgh Napier's enterprise support? Where else can I get help?
There are a number of organisations across Scotland that support people starting a business, freelancing, developing an idea or growing an existing venture.
You may find the following resources useful:
- Scottish Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Guide: A directory of organisations, business support providers, networks and workspace opportunities across Scotland.
- Business Gateway: Advice, guidance and resources for people starting or growing a business in Scotland.
These resources offer a starting point for finding support that suits your circumstances.
Can I still have post delivered to the BRT address at Bainfield?
No. The BRT postal service closed in January 2026.
Members who were previously paying for this service were contacted at the time and asked to make arrangements to update their postal addresses.
As a small amount of post is still arriving at Bainfield, this is a final reminder to ensure that any personal, business or organisation postal addresses previously registered at Bainfield have been updated.
Please be aware that BRT is no longer responsible for receiving, holding or forwarding post sent to the Bainfield address. Any post sent there is outside the responsibility of the service and the institution, as the postal service has now ended and previous reminders and requests to update addresses have been issued.
Who should I contact if my question isn't covered here?
