  • Start for Future (SFF)

  • Connecting Edinburgh Napier to a global community of entrepreneurs and innovators

Bright Red Triangle is Edinburgh Napier University's enterprise hub and a partner in Start for Future (SFF), an international community connecting universities, entrepreneurs, start-ups, incubators, accelerators, corporate partners and public-sector organisations across Europe.

Through SFF, Edinburgh Napier students, staff, researchers and graduates can connect with a much wider ecosystem of entrepreneurial talent, expertise, innovation and opportunity.

  • It's about thinking bigger, making connections and turning ideas into action.

  • What is Start for Future?

Start for Future is an international coalition bringing together around 30 universities across Europe, alongside corporate partners, incubators, accelerators, public-sector organisations and start-ups.

The network enables partners to share expertise, connect people and organisations, develop entrepreneurial opportunities and collaborate on innovation and new projects.

For Edinburgh Napier, this means taking the expertise, talent and ideas within our university and connecting them to a much wider international community.

As part of the SFF network, we can connect our students and graduates with entrepreneurs and opportunities beyond Scotland, while also creating opportunities for our academics and researchers to collaborate with international partners.

Why does this matter to Edinburgh Napier?

See it. Be it. Think bigger.

Entrepreneurship and innovation can sometimes feel like something that happens somewhere else, in another city, another sector or another country.

Start for Future helps change that.

By connecting Edinburgh Napier students, staff and graduates with an international community of people who are building businesses, developing new ideas and creating value for society, SFF helps make those possibilities more visible and accessible.

It can encourage people to think bigger, develop confidence and see opportunities for innovation at a much larger scale.

Whether you are exploring your first idea, developing a start-up, working on research, looking for collaboration or simply curious about entrepreneurship, being part of an international ecosystem can open up new possibilities.

  • Connecting research, education and enterprise

One of the strengths of the Start for Future network is the opportunity to bring together the different resources within universities and connect them to external partners.

    For Edinburgh Napier, this includes:

    • Research expertise – connecting academic and research knowledge with international innovation communities.
    • Student talent – creating opportunities for students to engage with entrepreneurs, businesses and international peers.
    • Entrepreneurship support – helping students, staff and graduates develop ideas and entrepreneurial skills.
    • Industry connections – creating opportunities to work with corporate partners and early-stage businesses.
    • International collaboration – developing relationships with universities and innovation ecosystems across Europe.
    • Research and innovation partnerships – creating opportunities to develop collaborative projects and explore potential European funding opportunities.

The partnership therefore supports more than individual entrepreneurs. It creates opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaboration between academia, research, enterprise and industry.

    Opportunities for students

Start for Future gives Edinburgh Napier students the opportunity to develop their entrepreneurial skills while connecting with an international community.

Depending on the programme and opportunity available, students can:

    • Explore and develop innovative ideas.
    • Learn how to build and communicate a business proposition.
    • Work with students and entrepreneurs from other countries.
    • Access coaches, experts and entrepreneurial networks.
    • Develop confidence in presenting and pitching ideas.
    • Explore opportunities to take an idea further.
    • Gain experience of working across cultures, disciplines and markets.

These experiences can be valuable whether your ambition is to start a business, develop a social venture, strengthen your employability or simply become more confident in thinking entrepreneurially.

    Opportunities for staff and researchers

Start for Future also creates opportunities for Edinburgh Napier academics and researchers to engage with an international network of universities, businesses and innovation organisations.

    This can support:

    • International academic and research collaboration.
    • Knowledge exchange.
    • Connections between research and industry.
    • Development of entrepreneurial and innovation activity.
    • New collaborative projects and consortia.
    • Exploration of wider European funding opportunities.

The network provides a way to connect Edinburgh Napier's research expertise with organisations and opportunities beyond the University and Scotland.
